About CostCanada

Independent home service cost data for Canadian homeowners, updated for 2026.

CostCanada.com is an independent cost reference site built for Canadian homeowners. We compile and maintain pricing data for 53 home services across 30 cities — from kitchen renovations in Vancouver to furnace replacements in Halifax.

Our Mission

The home renovation industry has a transparency problem. Homeowners consistently report feeling unprepared for the real cost of projects — not because they didn't research, but because most online cost guides are vague, American-sourced, or quietly funded by contractor referral networks with an incentive to inflate estimates and drive lead generation.

We built CostCanada to fix that. Our goal is simple: give Canadian homeowners the clearest possible picture of what things actually cost in their city, so they can budget accurately, evaluate quotes confidently, and avoid being taken advantage of.

What We Cover

Our database covers 15 service categories including renovation, plumbing, electrical, roofing, HVAC, flooring, painting, landscaping, and more. For each service, we provide low, mid-range, and high-end cost estimates adjusted for local market conditions in 30 Canadian cities and towns.

Beyond the cost data, our editorial team publishes practical guides on topics like reading contractor quotes, understanding permits, financing renovations, spotting scams, and planning projects by season. We also publish in-depth city renovation guides for Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Ottawa, and Montreal — covering local permit processes, neighbourhood cost variations, and city-specific building quirks.

How We're Different

We do not sell contractor leads. We do not take referral fees. We are not affiliated with any contractor, supplier, or trade association. Our only revenue comes from display advertising — which means our incentive is simply to provide content that's genuinely useful enough that people want to read it.

Every cost estimate on CostCanada is reviewed at least annually and updated when we see material changes in labour rates, material costs, or local market conditions. We flag the last-reviewed date on each page so you always know how fresh the data is.

Who We Are

CostCanada is run by a small team of Canadian homeowners, researchers, and writers who have personal experience navigating the renovation market. We've dealt with contractor quotes, permit offices, surprise structural finds, and the full chaos of living through a major renovation. That experience informs everything we publish.

Disclaimer

All cost estimates on CostCanada are based on market research and publicly available data. They represent typical ranges for typical projects and should be treated as a starting point, not a binding estimate. Your specific project may cost more or less depending on scope, site conditions, material choices, contractor availability, and dozens of other factors. Always get at least three written quotes from licensed, insured contractors before proceeding with any significant work.

CostCanada is not responsible for the accuracy of individual contractor quotes, project outcomes, or any decisions made based on the information on this site.
